Business Development Manager, Netil Market (Part-Time)

We’re seeking a motivated Business Development Manager to drive the growth of one of Hackney's best loved markets. Working alongside the team at Netil House, you will plan and deliver an outstanding calendar of partner and in-house events, ensuring the market reaches it’s full potential as a 7 day a week destination for street food and independant retail.


There will be a strong emphasis on increasing footfall throughout the week and the weekends.  You will take the lead in maximising market revenue, ensuring permanent shacks and trader stalls are at capacity throughout the year and programming a varied schedule of events throughout the year. You will identify and grow new revenue streams such as shoots and sponsored events as well as market days, utilising our premises license and applying for late licences for late openings where appropriate.


You will be based at Netil House office and work in a collaborative inspiring environment. The working days and hours are flexible for the right person but we envisage you will work two full mid week days each week, these being the same days each week.


Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Ensure all permanent containers / food shacks are fully occupied throughout the year.

  • Prepare an annual budget with detailed forecasts of income and expenditure.

  • Prepare and regularly update a 3 year financial forecast, maximising the potential for the space and revenue generation.

  • Work with our marketing team and third party agencies to ensure we find the most suitable tenants when a permanent space comes available, bearing in mind the importance of the tenant mix to the Market.

  • Oversee the curation of the weekly pop-up stalls at Netil Market.

  • Approach traders who you think can add more value and increase exposure of the Market.

  • Work with our finance team to ensure our online booking system is working effectively.

  • Understand the needs of the market, its traders and visitors. You will plan, deliver and manage a strategy to develop the Market.

  • Develop partnerships with other organisations who may be interested in running market days or other events.

  • Oversee all operations relating to the market to include setup and takedown of stalls at the weekends and special events.

  • Build and maintain good relationships with market residents and traders and act as a positive link between traders, customers and the local community.

  • Hold regular meetings with our social media team and provide updates to develop and maintain the markets' existing brand and voice. Ensure that they are informed of all upcoming events, new traders and news which can be shared across social media. 

  • Ensure we capture strong content for socials throughout the week and weekend to engage and grow our online audience. 

  • Be aware and notify our Marketing team of upcoming publications and features in local press which Netil Market could be featured in.

  • Explore opportunities to partner with like-minded brands to create interesting events in collaboration with the Netil Market tenants and EWA community

  • Help to keep our website up to date, arranging for photos to be taken of new tenants and at special events. 

  • Ensure market traders and visitors adhere to premises license conditions & rules, e.g. carrying out regular decibel readings to ensure noise levels are not breached

  • Work with our caretaker to ensure market & surrounds are kept clean and tidy, bins are emptied and the market is safe, clean and presentable.

  • Highlight any maintenance issues to our maintenance team. 

  • Ensure tenants comply with all necessary Public Liability Insurance requirements and ensure we as the landlord comply with all Fire, Health & Safety requirements. 

  • Liaise with our Security team to highlight any security concerns and ensure the market is being monitored overnight.

  • Investigate new revenue streams such as hiring the space on quieter days for film / photography shoots. Develop relationships with location scouts and hire companies. 

  • Investigate development opportunities in the market, such as installing roof, creating workshop space etc.

  • Work closely with our marketing team to improve the branding and presentation on site, including increased signage.

  • Encourage and support existing tenants to take the lead in running events, campaigns and other publicity drives to increase PR and footfall to the market.
